The Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty pre-release is here! Filled to the brim with potential, this booster set has the return of Ninjas, and introduces some new favourites, including a lot of technomancy.

While we are excited to see what kind of change this will have on the Magic meta as a whole, it can be helpful to have some deck ideas when going into the pre-release. Here are a few interesting combos that we have found from our own pre-release sets:

Red/White Samurai

We knew that a Samurai play set was going to be here, but the amount of support it has is worth mentioning. This Boros combo is promising to be a interesting play style. It requires that on the combat step, a single Samurai will attack your opponent so you can chain multiple card effects into play. Definitely dramatic, this play style will require some strategy to make sure you do not get a board wipe early.

You should definitely keep an eye out for Raiyuu, Storm’s Edge to get an additional combat phase after the first strike. There are numerous Samurai that give you extra benefits, including Heiko Yamazaki, the General and Eiganjo Exemplar. Make sure to throw in The Wandering Emperor to really change the game. But make sure you have some artifact items in your deck to boost your Samurai, such as Ancestral Katana. Otherwise, you may find yourself wiped out in the late game.

Blue/White Pilot

This combination of mortal and machine will definitely inspire some Gundam energy. With artifact vehicles such as Prodigy’s Prototype, the Pilot type characters in this set will have plenty to play with. Kitsune Ace and Suit Up will make sure that you are always playing to your max potential. Especially with a blue artifact set like this, make sure not to forget Tezzeret, Betrayer of Flesh. He could end up saving you from ruin.

Green/White Aura

Enchantments are back in a big way. Aura enchantments are making up a large section of the Green cards in this set, but White is getting some helping hands as well. Careful Cultivation is a rather simple buff, but can have some powerful results in the late game. Auras targeting opponent creatures, such as Intercessor’s Arrest, will make it easier to sweep out the competition. Add Light-Paws, Emperor’s Voice and/or Jukai Naturalist to really get some powerful combos to constantly buff yourself and debuff your opponent.

Honourable Mention: Go-Shintai Shrines

Go-Shintai Shrines are going to be a very interesting addition to the game. Found in all five colours, Go-Shintai shrines are 4 mana enchantment creatures that offer a decent defence for a starting board. However, they also have special abilities that cost 1 mana of any colour that can quickly change the game state.

For example, Go-Shintai of Shared Purpose allows you to pay 1 mana at the beginning of your end step to create a colourless 1/1 flying spirit token for each shrine you control. You can chain multiple shrine abilities together, creating a very interesting new play style.
